The Main River flows across the heart of central Germany, through the breathtaking Bavarian countryside, with stunning landscape of lush, rolling hillsides dotted with fairytale castles and captivating medieval villages. The Main River is one of the Rhine's major tributaries and is connected to both the Rhine River at Mainz and the Danube River via the Main-Danube canal.
The Main is around 330 miles long, 240 miles of which are navigable by cruise, between Bamberg and Mainz. It flows west through the German states of Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg and Hesse, through cities such as Frankfurt, Offenbach, Wertheim and Würzberg, twisting and turning through vineyards and ancient towns and villages.
The impressive Main-Danube canal stretches across 16 locks from Bamberg, via historic Nuremberg, to beautiful Regensburg, enabling river cruise ships to sail all the way from the North Sea to the Black Sea. The Main offers the perfect setting for scenic river cruising.
